What is the VRGO?

VRGO is the most intuitive and consumer friendly hands free movement controller for virtual reality. It combines simple responsive control with flawless design enabling you to unlock deeper levels of immersion by bringing you closer to reality whilst in VR.

It's no secret that one of the biggest issues currently facing the VR industry is that of movement within the Virtual world.

Moving away from stick yaw control, w,a,s,d, and mouse inputs and towards hands free alternatives, we can unlock new experiences that allow for deeper levels of presence. Sadly past efforts to provide a device that reaches these high standards have proven to be clunky, unresponsive, expensive and simply not practical for the average home. Until now.

The VRGO can connect wirelessly to both PC/MAC and cell phone HMD headsets via Bluetooth, it's low latency and universal adoption ensures the most responsive hands free experience.

It can connect at the touch of a button as both keyboard and mouse or joypad input. This means it will work on all platforms and on any game that have either of these input options.

The feeling of complete presence in VR is the ultimate goal. Being able to move freely and bring your hands into the virtual world are the key component to this. The VRGO allows for hands free movement enabling the use of other devices such as the Leap Ootion and Oculus Touch.

How does it work?

VRGO has been designed to complement the natural locomotion of your body. During movement, the human body naturally inclines towards the direction it’s travelling. VRGO’s tilt-to-move system correlates to these natural movements. To move within the virtual world, you simply lean in the desired direction of travel. This allows for a full and organic range of movement and rotation in any direction.

Through lots of testing we have found the perfect sensitively for activating motion through tilt. A gentle tilt of the chair forward or backward will start motion and a tilt to the left or right will act as a strafe.

When using joypad control, the VRGO works with analog range (the more you tilt the faster you go) while keyboard can only accommodate walk and sprint. The VRGO will emulate both of these inputs.

The default yaw motion is set greater than 1:1 so that a small movement on the chair will act as a larger movement in VR. This limits the chance of potential HMD wires becoming tangled and minimizes the effort required to rotate. However, this sensitivity can be changed within input device game setting options to suit your needs.

What's inside the chair?

Inside the VRGO is an Accelerometer, Gyroscope and Magnometer to get the chair working as a motion controller within Unity. You can also open up the device and use it as storage for your HMD, plugs, adaptors, headphones etc.

What is the size of the chair?

The height of the VRGO is 17 inches, which is slightly lower than an average chair height. The lower centre of gravity is for stability when turning and ensures the player has his or her feet firmly on the floor. The chair width is 18.5 inches in diameter and the seat pad is 11 inches wide.

Are there any weight restrictions?

The shell is made from a very strong fibreglass material that can withstand high pressure. The centre ring is a silicone H section that is glued onto the bottom half. When both halves are joined, the egg shape makes for a naturally strong structure.

What's the tech spec?

  • Self righting - Always self rights when tilted over for added stability
  • Storage space - Internal storage space for your HMD
  • Bluetooth - Low latency
  • Wireless - Use the VRGO anywhere
  • Battery life - 5 hours of continuous play
  • Charging port - Micro usb charging port to charge battery
  • Virtual joystick - Connects as either joypad or keyboard/mouse
  • Weight - 4 kilograms
  • Height - 17.5 Inches
  • Low friction base - easily spin 360 degrees on any surface

What games will work on the VRGO?

You will be able to play any game with the VRGO if they allow for keyboard or joypad input and they can be connected to a HMD. This includes Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Samsung Gear VR.

If you are using an Oculus Rift, some games can be made Rift-compatible with a 3rd party driver. The most commonly used is vorpeX.

We have started to build up a list of games that will work with the VRGO allow other to input into the list if we have missed any out.

Does it work with Xbox or Playstation consoles?

The VRGO is only compatible with PC, Mac and mobile phone games at this stage but we are working on bringing it to PSVR.
